Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then found numerous other marked automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say early analysis suggest the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to where it came from; investigators are currently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking official commented the vandalism left him without words and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he wrote on online, referring to the murder of nine people by a assailant focusing on people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
